At the invitation of the President of the National Council, Abdelkader Bensalah, Mr de Puig visited Algiers from 21 to 24 May. He met the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci, the Chair of the National Consultative Committee for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights Farouk Ksentini, and Seddik Chiheb, Deputy Speaker of the National People's Assembly and representative of the opposition. Mr de Puig also attended a conference at the headquarters of the National Council on the theme "Europe and the Maghreb on the road together", before an audience of politicians and academics. The President visited Morocco in February of this year and plans to go to Tunisia in June.
