Strasbourg, 14.02.2011 – The Committee on Culture, Science and Education of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is to hold a hearing in Paris on 18 February on the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue, in the context of preparation of a report on this subject by Anne Brasseur (Luxembourg, ALDE).
This hearing is being held to consider in greater detail monotheist religions' contribution to the promotion and protection of the Council of Europe's fundamental values and to the development of a society which is both cohesive and plural.
Experts and representatives of various religious authorities will be expressing their viewpoints, among them Mgr Aldo Giordano, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Council of Europe; Mgr Nestor Sirotenko, Bishop of Chersonese, representing the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in France; Pastor Claude Baty, President of the French Protestant Federation; Rabbi Alain Goldmann, Chief Rabbi of the Israelite Consistoire of Paris; and Haydar Demiryurek, Vice-President of the French Council of the Muslim Faith.
Mrs Brasseur's report is due to be debated on 12 April 2011 during the spring session of the PACE.

The hearing, which will take place from 9.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Friday 18 February at the French National Assembly, Salle Lamartine (101, rue de l’Université, Paris 7ème), will be open to the press.
