18/03/2011 Monitoring
Strasbourg, 18.03.2011 – Lise Christoffersen (Norway, SOC) and Piotr Wach (Poland, EPP/CD), co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Moldova by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 21-24 March 2011.
Among other things, they will focus on the current political situation, including the state of play as regards the election of the President of the Republic, the latest developments in the field of justice and the media, and preparations for local elections.
In Chişinaŭ they are due to meet, among others, the Speaker and acting President Marian Lupu, the Prime Minister Vlad Filat and a number of ministers as well as representatives of political parties in the parliament, leading members of the judiciary, election officials, the Ombudsman, representatives of the media, NGOs and diplomats.
In Comrat they will meet the President of the Gagauzia Popular Assembly and Governor of Gagauzia, as well as local officials.
The co-rapporteurs are due give a press conference at 1 p.m. on Thursday 24 March in the Moldovan Parliament.
