Good governance and ethics in sport: PACE hearing in Paris

Strasbourg, 02.12.2011 - As part of the preparation of a report by François Rochebloine (France, EPP/CD), Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s (PACE) Committee on Culture, Science and Education will be holding on 6 December in Paris (9.30 a.m., Council of Europe Office, 55, Avenue Kléber) a hearing on issues of governance and ethics in the sports world.

The questions of financial fair play and protecting young migrant footballers, as well as issues of power and internal politics inside sports bodies, will be addressed.

The hearing will be opened by Gvozden Srecko Flego (Croatia, SOC), Chairman of the Committee, and Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Keynote speakers include Dominique Rocheteau, Chair of the Ethics Committee of the French Football Federation and member of the FIFA Ethics Committee, Bernard Amsalem, President of the French Athletics Federation, Frédéric Sitterlé, President of the Racing Club of Strasbourg, Jean-Pierre Mougin, Secretary General of the French National Olympic and Sport Committee, and Andrew Jennings, an investigative journalist.

During the afternoon, the committee should be adopting two reports, one on protecting freedom of expression and information on the Internet and online media, and the other on the right of everyone to take part in cultural life. It will also be giving an opinion on the 2012 Council of Europe Museum Prize-winner.
