Strasbourg, 27.01.2012 – Pedro Agramunt (Spain, EPP/CD) and Joseph Debono Grech (Malta, SOC), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Azerbaijan, will make a fact-finding visit to that country from 31 January to 2 February.
In Baku, the co-rapporteurs are due to meet the President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev, the Speaker of Parliament Ogtay Asadov, the Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov and the leaders of political parties represented in Parliament. Talks are also scheduled with the Chairman of the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General, the Ombudsman and the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, as well as leaders of political parties not represented in parliament, and representatives of NGOs and the media. In Guba, the co-rapporteurs will meet representatives of local authorities and NGOs.
Mr Debono Grech and Mr Agramunt will give a press conference at the Council of Europe office in Baku (39-41 Boyuk Gala Street, Icheri Sheher) on Thursday 2 February at 5.30 pm.
