Strasbourg, 07.09.2012 - The Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which will meet on 10-11 September in Helsinki (Finland), will hold an exchange of views with the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Erkki Tuomioja.
The meeting will be opened by the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, Eero Heinäluoma, and the Chairperson of the Finnish delegation to the PACE, Susanna Huovinen.
The committee will hold a hearing on human rights and foreign policy with the participation of former President of the Finnish Republic, Tarja Halonen. It should then adopt the report by Pietro Marcenaro (Italy, SOC) on this subject. The committee will also hold a hearing on the “Challenges arising from the current economic and financial crisis” with the participation of Professor Sixten Korkman. In this context, it will adopt a report on the activities of the OECD in 2011-2012.
The committee will finally adopt the report by Jean-Charles Gardetto (Monaco, EPP/CD) “For more democratic elections”.

The meeting, which is open to the press, will take place on Monday 10 September (9.30 am to 5.30 pm) and on Tuesday 11 September (9 am to 1 pm) in the Eduskunta, the Finnish Parliament of Finland , Auditorium of the Annex building.
