PACE delegation makes pre-electoral visit to Ukraine

Strasbourg, 14.09.2012 – A seven-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by Andreas Gross (Switzerland, SOC), will carry out a pre-electoral mission to Kyiv on 20 and 21 September 2012. The delegation aims to assess the electoral framework and campaign ahead of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine on 28 October 2012.

The delegation is due to meet the President of Ukraine, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the Interior Minister, representatives of political parties running in the election, the head of the Central Election Commission and the Chair of the Constitutional Court, among others, as well as representatives of civil society, the media and members of the diplomatic corps in Kyiv.

A full delegation of around 40 Assembly members will return to the country to observe the voting, alongside other international observers, before making a joint final assessment.
