PACE delegation to observe the parliamentary elections in Ukraine

Strasbourg, 19.10.2012 – A 41-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by Andreas Gross (Switzerland, SOC), will be in Ukraine from 26 to 29 October to observe the parliamentary elections alongside observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the European Parliament, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

The delegation will meet representatives of the political parties and blocs running in the elections, the head of the Central Electoral Commission and representatives of civil society, the media and the international community, before being deployed around the country to observe the ballot on 28 October.

A member of the Venice Commission – the Council of Europe’s group of independent legal experts, which has recently assessed Ukraine’s electoral law – will provide legal support during the visit.

A seven-member PACE pre-electoral delegation visited Kyiv on 20 and 21 September.
