Strasbourg, 26.07.2013 – “I strongly condemn the murder in Tunis yesterday of Mohamed Brahmi, an opposition member of the Constituent Assembly,” said Anne Brasseur (Luxembourg, ALDE), PACE rapporteur on Tunisia, speaking today. “Not only did the murderers execute him in cold blood, they also caused a serious setback to democratic development in Tunisia.”
“All those people whose courage brought about the revolution must not allow their efforts to be crushed. Extremists must not be allowed to hold back the achievements of the revolution. We call on the government and members of parliament to analyse what has happened in full transparency and to engage in dialogue with the population, so as to work out together how to overcome this crisis, which yet again brings a risk of the huge efforts made so far being thwarted,” the rapporteur concluded.
