Strasbourg, 03.09.2013 – The Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will discuss the political transition in Egypt during a hearing to be held tomorrow, 4 September, in Paris, in the context of a report on this issue prepared by José María Beneyto (Spain, EPP/CD).
Tewfick Aclimandos, Research Associate at the Chair of Modern History of the Arab World at the College of France, and Richard Atwood, Director of Research at the International Crisis Group, will analyse recent developments and will hold an exchange of views with the parliamentarians.
In a statement issued yesterday in Dubrovnik, the PACE Bureau called for “an inclusive reconciliation process and political dialogue in Egypt which would prevent any further recourse to violence” and asked for an independent investigation into the killings and all acts of violence which occurred last month in the country.
This hearing, which is open to the press, will take place on Wednesday 4 September 2013, from 4.30 to 6.30 pm, in the premises of the Council of Europe in Paris (55 avenue Kléber, Paris 16ème, métro Boissière).
