Strasbourg, 09.09.2013 – A seven-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Robert Walter (United Kingdom, EDG), will carry out a pre-electoral visit to Baku on 11-13 September 2013, to assess the electoral framework and campaign prior to the presidential election on 9 October in Azerbaijan.
The delegation is due to meet the outgoing President and presidential candidate, the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of the Interior, election candidates and representatives of the opposition parties belonging to the alliance of the National Council of Democratic Forces. Talks are also scheduled with the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, the President of the Central Electoral Commission and representatives of NGOs and the media.
A full 32-member delegation from the Assembly will return to the country to observe the voting.
The delegation will issue a written statement at the end of the pre-election visit.
