Monitoring visit by PACE co-rapporteurs to Serbia

Davit Harutyunyan (Armenia, EDG) and Indrek Saar (Estonia, SOC), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of Serbia, today began a fact-finding visit to Belgrade, due to finish on 27 November, to assess different aspects of Serbia’s honouring of its obligations and commitments to the Council of Europe.

The main topics for discussion include reform of the judiciary, adoption of amendments to the Criminal Code, implementation of effective anti-corruption policies, the situation of the media, and the rights of minorities, especially Roma.

During their visit, they are due to meet, in particular, the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the First Deputy Prime Minister in charge of defence, security and the fight against corruption and crime, the Foreign Minister, and the Minister of Justice and Public Administration. Talks are also scheduled with the Serbian delegation to PACE, the Ombudsman, as well as with representatives of the judicial authorities, international organisations and NGOs. The co-rapporteurs will also meet authorities’ representatives of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
