Political changes in the South Mediterranean and in the Middle East: the role of representative institutions

The conference on this topic organised on 8 November 2013 in Lisbon, in co-operation with the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy and the North-South Centre, was partly financed from EU funds allocated to PACE in the framework of the South Programme (a three-year co-operation programme with countries of the Southern Mediterranean).

Participants included members of the committee, members of the Constituent Assembly of Tunisia, as well as Members of Parliaments of Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, members of the Knesset and the Palestinian National Council, and representatives of Egyptian political forces. At the heart of the debate: the current political situation and political changes in the region, following the events of the Arab Spring.
