Monitors make fact-finding visit to Montenegro

Kimmo Sasi (Finland, EPP/CD) and Terry Leyden (Ireland, ADLE), co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Montenegro by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 13 to 16 April 2014 to discuss implementation of the Assembly’s latest resolution and to assess, in particular, the latest political and legal developments, the reform of the judiciary, the situation of refugees and IDPs, the fight against corruption, and the situation of the media.

Meetings are foreseen in Podgorica with the President of the Republic, Speaker of Parliament, Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Minister for the Information Society, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Deputy Minister of Justice, and the State Secretary at the Ministry of Interior.

The co-rapporteurs will also meet the delegation of Montenegro to PACE, leaders and representatives of the political parties represented in the Parliament as well as representatives of high judicial authorities, bodies specialised in the anti-corruption fight, NGOs and the media.

In Budva, Mr Sasi et Mr Leyden will meet representatives of local authorities, the judiciary and civil society.
