Jonathan Evans (United Kingdom, EDG) and Grigore Petrenco (Republic of Moldova, UEL), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Albania, will make a fact-finding visit to that country on 2-3 June 2014.
Discussions are expected to mainly focus on the independence of the judiciary, the fight against corruption and on recent political developments, in the light of their forthcoming report on the honouring of obligations and commitments of Albania, which will be debated during the PACE Autumn Session (29 September – 3 October 2014).
In Tirana, the co-rapporteurs are due to meet the President of the Republic, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice and the Minister for Local Authorities and Decentralisation. Talks are also scheduled with the leader of the Democratic Party, the Albanian delegation to the PACE, representatives of the judicial authorities, the Ombudsman, as well as with representatives of international organisations.
