Notwithstanding the various measures taken over the years to strengthen the independence of the Court, there is still room for improvement, the Assembly stated today.
Following the proposals by the rapporteur Boriss Cilevics (Latvia, SOC), the parliamentarians cited additional measures such as the ratification of the Sixth Protocol to the Council of Europe’s General Agreement on Privileges and Immunities, the revision of present arrangements on social security arrangements and retirement pensions for judges, and improvements to the present situation regarding their post-retirement status.
