PACE delegation makes pre-electoral visit to Turkey

A six-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Meritxell Mateu Pi (Andorra, ALDE), will carry out a pre-electoral visit to Ankara on 21-22 July, ahead of the presidential election in Turkey on 10 August, to assess the electoral framework and campaign.

The delegation is due to meet, in particular, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, the three candidates standing for election (or their representatives), the Turkish delegation to PACE, representatives of the Supreme Board of Elections and the Radio and Television Supreme Council, and representatives of the international community, civil society and the media.

A full 30-member delegation from the Assembly will return to the country to observe the voting.

The delegation will issue a statement at the end of the visit on Tuesday 22 July.
