28/02/2015 Monitoring
Theodora Bakoyannis (Greece, EPP/CD) and Liliane Maury Pasquier (Switzerland, SOC), co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Russia by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), have condemned in the strongest possible terms the killing of leading Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.
The co-rapporteurs paid tribute to the important role played by Boris Nemtsov in Russian politics since the fall of the Berlin Wall. 'This despicable murder is a clear attack on pluralism in Russian politics,' they said.
'We urge the authorities to fully investigate this obnoxious crime and to prosecute the perpetrators in full compliance with international standards. All the necessary measures must be taken to ensure that this crime does not go unpunished and that violence does not prevail.'
