Today PACE President Anne Brasseur took part in the international march against terrorism in Tunis, marching alongside Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, French President François Hollande, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and many other international political leaders who came to Tunis to express solidarity and strong support for living together in a free and pluralist society.
“We were deeply shocked by the hideous terrorist attack on the Bardo museum ten days ago. Today we are on the street, together with the Tunisian people, to say no to hatred and to fear,” Ms Brasseur said. “Tunisian society has clearly shown that any attempt to intimidate this young democracy will not succeed. Tunisia will remain on its path of democratic reforms and will continue to have our full support. An open society that shares common values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law is the best response to terrorism and the best defence against extremism.”
