Call for more help for refugees fleeing “Islamic State” terror

In the face of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis caused by the actions of the terrorist group known as “Islamic State”, the Assembly has reiterated its appeal to States to show solidarity by increasing the funds allocated to humanitarian organisations in the region.

Debating the humanitarian consequences of actions by “Islamic State”, based on a report by Jean-Marie Bockel (France, EPP/CD), the Assembly said the situation was getting worse. It pointed out that, according to the UNHCR, 4 million refugees have fled the country and there are some 7.5 million internally displaced persons, whose situation is increasingly worrying. In 2014 alone, the conflict set a grim record of 76 000 deaths, including 3 500 children.
