PACE President condemns terrorist attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait

“I am deeply shocked at today’s wave of terrorist attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait which I condemn, on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly, in the strongest possible terms,” said Anne Brasseur, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Referring to the reports that at least 27 people have been killed in the Tunisian resort town of Sousse, at least 13 in a Mosque in Kuwait City and one person beheaded near the French city of Lyon, she said : “Violent extremism and terrorism undermine the very foundations of democratic societies and are completely unacceptable. I also want to send a message of sympathy to the families of the victims and to the injured as well as to the people and the authorities of the three countries.”

Referring to the Parliamentary Assembly plenary session that just ended this morning in Strasbourg, she called on the 324 PACE members to raise their voices and “speak out against terrorism, as well as the hate and intolerance that fuels it.”
