Today, in telephone conversations with the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mladen Ivanić, PACE President Anne Brasseur condemned the Saturday attack on the Prime Minister of Serbia at the Commemoration Ceremony of the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica tragedy and called on the politicians of the region to pursue reconciliation efforts.
“I regret that this solemn and important ceremony was disturbed by such provocative acts which must be firmly condemned. I express solidarity with Prime Minister Vučić and appreciation of the reaction by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina which condemned this violent attack,” said Anne Brasseur.
“It takes a great deal of courage to face the past and I would like to commend the efforts of Prime Minister Vučić and of the other politicians from the region who, without forgetting the past, have embarked on the path of reconciliation. This regrettable incident should not affect the reconciliation efforts by all sides, because it is only by working together that we can build a common European future. The people and politicians of the region can count on the support of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in their efforts,” stressed Anne Brasseur.
