Josette Durrieu (France, SOC), rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will make a fact-finding visit to Jordan from 13 to 16 September, in the context of the preparation of her report on the request for partner for democracy status with PACE, submitted by the Jordanian Parliament. Discussions will mainly focus on the functioning of democracy and the protection of human rights in Jordan.
In Amman, Ms Durrieu will have a private audience with King Abdullah II. She will meet the Speakers of both Chambers of the Jordanian Parliament, the Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as the Ministers of Justice and the Interior.
Talks are also scheduled with leaders of parliamentary groups and political parties, the President of the Independent Election Commission, and representatives of the judicial authorities, NGOs, the media and the diplomatic community.
In addition, Ms Durrieu will visit Za’atari Syrian refugee camp in Jordan.
