Maximise the benefits of migration between China and Europe

The PACE Standing Committee, meeting in Sofia, proposed today a set of measures, in order to maximise the benefits of migration between China and Europe. It called on member States, in particular, to sign bilateral agreements with China on social security, education and other integration-related issues. Parliamentarians also recommended to develop co-operation with the Chinese authorities to combat trafficking and smuggling networks.

The resolution adopted today, on the basis of a report by Thierry Mariani (France, EPP/CD), states that the influx of Chinese migrants to Europe should be viewed “in terms of potential for economic growth”, and called on member States to facilitate their access to the nationality of the host country.
