PACE members speak out on the role of the Assembly, dialogue and co-operation

“Our doors are open!” said Axel Fischer (Germany, EPP/CD), opening a current affairs debate on the Assembly’s role as a pan-European forum for inter-parliamentary dialogue and co-operation. Recalling PACE’s origins and history, he underlined that dialogue lay at the heart of what the Assembly stands for.

Some thirty members of the Assembly asked to speak in the debate, many of them touching on the question of the Russian Parliament’s decision not to take part in the work of the PACE for a year after the Assembly applied a series of sanctions over the situation in Ukraine.

Under the rules, current affairs debates do not give rise to a written text, but offer members the opportunity to express their views on the topic in question.
