Valentina Leskaj (Albania, SOC) and Ögmundur Jonásson (Iceland, UEL), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by the Republic of Moldova, will make a fact-finding visit to the country on 27-29 June 2016.
Discussions will mainly focus on the latest political developments and the preparation of the presidential elections of 30 October 2016, the legislative developments pertaining to democracy, rule of law and human rights, the recent developments in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova and the follow-up of the criminal cases against Vladimir Filat, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, and Grigore Petrenco, former PACE member.
In Chisinau, the co-rapporteurs are due to meet notably the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, the Ministers of Justice and Internal Affairs, the President of the Constitutional Court, the Acting General Prosecutor and the Ombudsman. Talks are also scheduled with leaders of political parties, the Moldovan delegation to PACE, representatives of media, NGOs and the international community.
In Tiraspol, they will meet the de facto Transnistrian representatives, including the de facto Chief Negotiator and representatives of the civil society.
