PACE to observe Jordan’s early parliamentary elections

A 12-member, cross-party delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by René Rouquet (France, SOC), is to observe the early parliamentary elections in Jordan on 20 September 2016.

Jordan’s parliament, which has held “Partner for Democracy” status with the Assembly since the beginning of this year, has pledged to work towards elections that are held in line with international standards.

The delegation is due to meet Jordan’s Interior Minister as well as the President of the Independent Elections Commission and other election officials, media representatives and local observer NGOs, among others.

On the day of the vote, the delegation will observe polling and counting procedures in various parts of the country.
