Egidijus Vareikis (Lithuania, EPP/CD) and Maryvonne Blondin (France, SOC), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by the Republic of Moldova, will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 21 to 23 July 2019.
Discussions will mainly focus on the functioning of democratic institutions after the February 2019 elections, the political developments following the June 2019 constitutional and political crisis, and the recent measures taken in the field of justice and the fight against corruption.
In Chisinau, the co-rapporteurs are due to meet the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Minister for Reintegration, as well as the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Justice.
Talks are also scheduled with parliamentary committees in charge of justice, anti-corruption and human rights, as well as with political party leaders and the Moldovan delegation to PACE
Mr Vareikis and Ms Blondin will also meet representatives of the Constitutional Court, the National Anticorruption Center, the Central Electoral Commission and the Court of Accounts, as well as representatives of the judicial authorities, NGOs and the international community.
This visit is part of the preparation of a report by the co-rapporteurs on the functioning of democratic institutions in the Republic of Moldova.
