PACE Secretary General Wojciech Sawicki held a video-conference call on 27 March with his counterparts from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Roberto Montella, and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Ruxandra Popa, during which they discussed common challenges facing the three organisations as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. The Secretaries General shared their views and strategies for holding statutory meetings going forward.
They also discussed possibilities for video-conferencing, electronic voting and simultaneous translation. Recognising that technology can offer innovative solutions for coping with social distancing requirements, they felt it was nevertheless important to maintain a high level of user-friendliness and quality for members of their respective assemblies and ensure that decisions are taken in line with the rules. The Secretaries General expressed support for further co-operation and strengthened multilateralism in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.
