As part of a project funded by the EU and implemented by PACE, "Support for the development of the role of parliament in the consolidation of democracy in Morocco 2020-2023", the first meeting of the technical steering committee was held on June 17 in the Moroccan Parliament in the presence of Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, Secretary General of PACE; Najib El Khadi, Secretary General at the House of Representatives; Wahid Khouja, Secretary General of the Chamber of Councillors; and Jean-Christophe Filori, Minister Counselor, Head of Co-operation at the EU Delegation in Rabat.
The participants welcomed the co-operation based on trust, mutual respect and dialogue between the Kingdom of Morocco through its institutions, the EU and the Council of Europe,
In addition, they underlined the importance of this project in the process of democratisation of the Moroccan Parliament, and insisted on the strengthening of the role of parliament, the promotion of participatory democracy, communication and the digitisation of parliamentary action, the analysis of public policies, Parliament's relationship with civil society and its openness to Moroccan citizens who are the final beneficiaries of the project.
The stakeholders validated the action plan for the period 2021-2023 and reiterated their commitment to the implementation of the project under the best conditions.
This event took place in view of the political steering committee meeting scheduled for July, on the sidelines of the PACE President’s visit to Morocco.
