09/12/2021 President
Rik Daems, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), paid an official visit to Luxembourg on 7 December 2021, where he discussed how to further strengthen bilateral relations and to maintain the role of Luxembourg as a pioneer in the development of policies based on human rights and the rule of law.
During meetings with Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Chamber of Deputies Speaker Fernand Etgen, Minister of the Environment Carole Dieschburg and other high-level officials, issues discussed included the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on human rights and the rule of law, the need for an urgent paradigm shift in environmental policy, practical measures aimed at protecting the rights of the LGBTI community in Europe, and combating violence against women.
President Daems thanked the Luxembourg delegation to the Assembly – and its Chair Gusty Graas – for their long-standing positive contribution to PACE’s work, and encouraged them to remain active and innovative in the future.
The PACE President also had an audience with His Royal Highness the Grand Duke.
