One year into her term of office, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, is proposing to offer the 245 or so women MPs represented in the Assembly the opportunity to raise their voices in an informal “[email protected]” group.
"Women play a major role in our Assembly and it is important for them to be able to connect and exchange during the parliamentary sessions and beyond,” said the Secretary General, the first woman to hold this post since the creation of the Council of Europe in 1949, speaking on International Women’s Day. “The cross-party tool ‘[email protected]’ will allow them to channel their initiatives, launch debates, consult together, co-ordinate and discuss in an informal way.”
"On the occasion of our extraordinary session on 14-15 March in Strasbourg, the ‘[email protected]’ group will hopefully already bear its first fruits in the form of co-ordinated support for women in Ukraine, as the group will have the opportunity to exchange with the women of the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation. Urgent needs require an urgent reaction," she concluded.
