Pieter Omtzigt (Netherlands, EPP/CD), one of the co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of Poland, will make a fact-finding visit to Warsaw from 13 to 15 March.
This visit will mainly focus on judicial reforms, the independence of the judiciary, the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, and media freedom.
Mr Omtzigt is due to meet, in particular, the Speaker of the Senate, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice; the Head of the International Policy Bureau of the Presidential administration, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal as well as the First President and Presidium of the Supreme Court.
He will also hold meetings with the Chairperson of the Polish delegation to PACE, the Commissioner for Human Rights, representatives of judges and prosecutors’ organisations, NGOs, and the media.
