Asim Mollazada (Azerbaijan, EC/DA) and Ionut Stroe (Romania, EPP/CD), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Albania, will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 25 to 28 September 2023.
Discussions will mainly focus on recent political developments, the reform of the judiciary, the fight against corruption, local democracy and decentralisation, the situation of minorities, and media freedom.
In Tirana, Mr Mollazada and Mr Stroe are due to meet, in particular, the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of State for Local Government.
Talks are also scheduled with various parliamentary committees, the Albanian delegation to PACE, leaders and representatives of the parliamentary political groups, the Ombudsperson, the Commissioner for Protection against Discrimination, as well as representatives of the judicial authorities, the international community, NGOs, and the media.
The co-rapporteurs will also hold meetings with representatives of local authorities and local government institutions, as well as with local NGOs and minority organisations in Fier and Himara.
In Fier, they will meet a Serb Association and the Roma community.
