Putting an end to transphobic violence, discrimination and hatred

Transgender day of remembrance

"20 November is a day to honour the memory of transgender victims of hatred. They are discriminated against and persecuted around the world, victims of harassment, physical and psychological violence and hate crimes," stated Christophe Lacroix (Belgium, SOC), General Rapporteur of the Assembly on the rights of LGBTI people, on the occasion of the Trans Day of Remembrance.

“For many transgender people, violence begins within the family and continues in the public space. Daily discrimination and acts of violence are a reflection of transphobia, based on stereotypes and ignorance of the situation of transgender people.”

“We have a responsibility to provide a benevolent social environment for all. There is an urgent need to put an end to transphobic violence, discrimination and hatred. As parliamentarians, we should call for the protection of all," he concluded.
