‘Making the inclusion of persons with disabilities a reality’

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

“Too often, persons with disabilities have been left behind and policy-making has not been inclusive enough. Inclusion in society, accessibility of premises and procedures and participation in political, economic and cultural life for all persons with disabilities were not made a priority,” stated Maria Mezentseva (Ukraine, EPP/CD), Chairperson of the PACE Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, on the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

“In a world enduring multiple crises and conflicts, our responsibility is to ensure protection and inclusion for the most vulnerable. We need to increase our efforts to support persons with disabilities, with specific attention to women and girls in all their diversity, with a view to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) for all”, she continued.

“I call on all member states of the Council of Europe, observers and partners for democracy to ensure that no one is left behind and that inclusion for people with disabilities becomes a reality for all,” she concluded.
