PACE to observe the parliamentary elections in Albania

Albania

A 21-member delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Simone Billi (Italy, ECPA), will travel to Albania from 9 to 12 May to observe the conduct of the 11 May parliamentary elections alongside partners from the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament.

The cross-party delegation will meet candidates or representatives of political parties contesting the elections, as well as the heads of the Central Election Commission and the main anti-corruption body in Albania, and representatives of NGOs and the media, before observing the ballot on 11 May.

Two members of the Venice Commission – the Council of Europe's group of independent legal experts – will provide legal advice during the visit.

A four-member PACE delegation made a pre-electoral visit to the country on 3-4 April, and issued this statement at the conclusion of the visit.

The head of the delegation is due to deliver its preliminary conclusions at a joint press conference at the Rogner Hotel, Tirana, on the afternoon of Monday 12 May at 15:00 local time (CEST). The press conference will also be livestreamed here.
