23/05/2025 Standing Committee
“We stand ready to do our part in strengthening the engagement and dialogue between the Committee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly,” said Ian Borg, Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, and President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, speaking today at the opening of the Standing Committee meeting in Malta.
“The principles of dialogue and mutual respect which have long underpinned foreign policy, are needed now more than ever, not just within the Council of Europe, but with each other as member states, and also with other countries and international organisations. We must renew our commitment to peace and multilateralism to the defence of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law,” Mr Borg stressed.
“As President of the Committee of Ministers I'm committed to working with the Parliamentary Assembly to navigate outstanding matters and move forward in spirit of co-operation”, he concluded.
