The Assembly,
Considering that it has frequently urged member countries to adopt a common policy in the international organisations to which they have acceded ;
Considering that, in the Recommendation it adopted at its May Session, it warmly approved the establishment of the European Economic Community, which it welcomed as a fundamental step towards European unity and an important contribution to the preservation of world peace ;
Considering that in the course of their forthcoming debates the Member States of GATT will be called upon to decide whether the Rome Treaty is compatible with the clauses of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade ;
Considering that negotiations have been started with a view to extending the European Economic Community by associating with it other member countries of O. E. E. C. within the framework of a Free Trade Area,
Recommends to the Committee of Ministers that Member States should adopt a common attitude in the forthcoming discussions by G. A. T. T. on the European Economic Community.
