The Assembly,
Welcoming the decision of the Committee of Ministers to appoint a group of experts to study the question of harmonising European legislation on wines and spirits;
Noting the economic importance assumed in our countries by the production and marketing of these products;
Considering that it is of the highest importance from the social point of view to eliminate from European trade artificial or chemical drinks which are known to have harmful effects;
Believing that only the output of high-grade natural products can prevent the harmful effects upon the health of the nations of alcoholism and the consumption of noxious drinks,
Recommends that the Committee of Ministers appoint a leading European personality to be responsible, in agreement with the professional organisations concerned, for directing and following the work of the governmental experts appointed to draw up a European convention on fermented drinks.
