The Assembly,
1. Recalling its Recommendation 648 (1971) on assistance to refugees from East Pakistan, and welcoming Resolution (71) 26 of the Committee of Ministers ;
2. Noting that the tragic events in the Indian sub-continent have caused unlimited human suffering and a very serious set-back to economic development in the area, particularly in Bangla Desh ;
3. Recognising the fact that Bangla Desh needs massive assistance in order to build up what has been destroyed in East Bengal,
4. Believes that member governments should immediately increase their contributions in support of the people of Bangla Desh, and in particular in support of the refugees with special reference to their resettlement, and that member governments should provide Bangla Desh with the massive economic assistance necessary in order to build up what has been destroyed ;
5. Instructs its Committee on Parliamentary and Public Relations to bring this resolution to the attention of national parliaments for appropriate action.
