Mr Aleksander POCIEJ

Speeches since 2019

24/04/2023 | 14:53:20 Dear colleagues, 19 April, 1943. Several hundred fighters from the Jewish combat organisation and the Jewish military union began the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Before the Uprising, nearly 300 000 Warsaw Jews had been murdered in Treblinka's gas chambers. 60 000 people were then hiding in the Ghetto. Only a few escaped death – a fate shared by 6 million European Jews. Out of several hundred Jewish fighters, only a few survived. Yet the fight was for something more important than life. They... 23/01/2023 | 15:45:34 Thank you very much, Mister President. First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your re-election. There is no doubt that our activity, our life, our daily life, but also our rights are affected by the aggression in Ukraine. In front of such a drama, where not only human rights are annihilated, but also the lives of thousands of human beings, we should not remain without reaction. We are here to help, to bear witness, to exert pressure and to help Ukraine resist the invader. Our... 10/10/2022 | 12:15:49 Thank you very much. I would like to start with Mr Boriss CILEVIČS. Boriss, you've been listening to some good things from the leader of the Socialist Group. I mean, as the leader of the Group of the European People's Party, we don't always agree but your work is really spectacular. I really congratulate you. Fourth summit, I would just like to say one thing. Many of us are seriously concerned about two things: is this really going to have an impact on our organisation? Is it going to be... 23/06/2022 | 16:51:05 Thank you, Madam President. My name always causes some problems: POCIEJ. Thank you very much to Mr Oleksii GONCHARENKO for this introduction. It is right and it is absolutely necessary. No one should be surprised that we are dealing with this tragedy, the war in Ukraine, from different perspectives and with dense attention again and again and again. We have to do it because it is damaging and very dangerous. This war is not only a tragedy for Ukraine; it is not only an imminent threat for the... 21/06/2022 | 12:25:51 Dear Colleagues, Madam Sviatlana TSIKHANOUSKAYA, President of the Polish EPP Group, I am very happy, dear Sviatlana, to welcome you in this Assembly, in this common European house, which has the vocation to defend democracy and human rights on the European continent. I would like to remind our colleagues that you are one of the main icons of the Belarusian opposition to the Lukashenko regime and that your husband, like several hundred compatriots, was heavily condemned in Belarus under the... 20/06/2022 | 12:57:36 Thank you very much, Madam Chair. After what Mr Oleksii GONCHARENKO just said it is very difficult to go back to normal procedures. I remember in Kyiv there is a wall with the pictures and names of people killed, but killed over the last seven or eight years. It was hundreds of people. When we went there I was told by one of the Ukrainian colleagues, "You will see there are many places because this is the big wall." I didn't believe what he said: that he was expecting the war and the many... 20/06/2022 | 12:28:32 Thank you, indeed. I did not know that I should do both at the same time. Yes, our delegation was composed of 25 people. We, as usual, co-operated with ODIHR and OSCE and the European Parliament Mission. Once again, I have to express our gratitude to the members of the Venice Commission. They are always very useful, they are helpful and they are providing us with many, many very good observations. Indeed, as the Assembly, we only observed one election in Serbia, 2020, Covid-19 situation. And... 20/06/2022 | 12:05:45 Thank you very much Mr President, Dear colleagues, I'm very pleased to present to you the latest progress report of the Bureau of the Assembly and Standing Committee of our Parliamentary Assembly, covering the period from April to June 2022. During the reporting period, our Parliamentary Assembly has of course decided to pursue its discussion of the consequences of the Russian Federation's continued aggression against Ukraine by seizing our Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy to... 28/04/2022 | 12:54:35 Thank you very much to all those who have spoken today. After what Mr Oleksii GONCHARENKO and all our Ukrainian friends have said today, in the face of such a tragedy that has befallen their country, it is very difficult to speak from a legal point of view, but we have to do so because it can allow us to punish all the atrocities that we are witnessing. I understand the hesitations of my colleagues, Mr George KATROUGALOS, Mr Paul GAVAN, Mr Erkin GADIRLI as well, but I believe that in my... 28/04/2022 | 11:13:42 Thank you very much, Mr Tiny KOX.  Thank you very much, President, for this introduction and your words.  We have indeed been, as the Presidential Committee, to Ukraine. We witnessed the big courage and the struggle of our Ukrainian friends. That was very, very instructive. Dear Colleagues, Yesterday we had an excellent discussion on the report by the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy on the consequences of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, in general. Today, we have before...
