, 16.09.2008 - The current talks on represent “the best opportunity in many years” to reach a settlement of the conflict, according to the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
In a draft report by Joachim Hörster (Germany, EPP/CD) made public today, the committee said Cypriot President emetris Christofias and the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat – each of whom will separately address the Assembly at its coming session – cannot afford to fail, and listed steps that all sides can take “to maximise the chances of success”.
