PACE hearing on how to protect copyright in an information society

Strasbourg, 08.12.2008 - How can copyright be protected, particularly in electronic communications, while every citizen must retain the right to free access to information, including those provided by digital libraries?

This question will be raised at a hearing on “Copyright in Europe”, organised on Tuesday 9 December 2008 in Paris by the Committee on Culture, Science and Education of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). In the presence of the committee’s parliamentarians, the sector's main players – authors, composers, editors, lecturers –  will express their viewpoints and will seek to identify the problems of copyright protection, which is the topic of a report under preparation by José Luis Arnaut (Portugal, EPP/CD).

The hearing, which is open to the press, takes place from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Council of Europe Office, 55 Avenue Kléber, Paris 16ème (Métro Boissière).
