PACE President’s reaction to bombing in Ankara

Strasbourg, 20.09.2011 – Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has responded to today’s bombing in the Turkish capital with the following statement:

“I am shocked by the news of today’s bomb explosion in Ankara, in which – according to initial reports – three people have died and several people have been injured as a result of this act of violence. My thoughts are with them and their families.

The perpetrators of such terrorist activities should know that terrorism has no place in a democracy, and that no-one can reach their goals through such inhuman and heinous attacks. Only two weeks ago, on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, I and other Council of Europe leaders spoke of our determination to combat terrorism in all its forms, above all by standing firmly for the values we believe in.

Today, I resolutely reiterate my condemnation of terrorism in any form and underline that our determination to combat it has become stronger than ever.”
