Republic of Moldova: PACE monitors again urge parties to elect a President - then agree constitutional change to avoid future deadlock

Lise Christoffersen (Norway, SOC) and Piotr Wach (Poland, EPP/CD), PACE’s co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of the Republic of Moldova, have again urged the country’s political parties to elect a President without delay, and to seek consensus on any future constitutional changes to avoid future deadlock.

In an information note made public today, they strongly regretted that party leaders had failed, for the past two and half years, to reach a compromise on electing a President. Leaders should also work within the legal framework and refrain from challenging the legitimacy of democratic institutions, they warned.
