06/09/2012 Monitoring
Strasbourg, 06.09.2012 – Pointing to “ongoing political bickering” in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the upcoming local elections, the PACE co-rapporteurs monitoring the country have said they are frankly doubtful that progress will be made on implementation of the Sejdić and Finci judgment, and the roadmap to a credible EU membership application.
In an information note on their latest visit to the country at the beginning of June, made public today, Karin S. Woldseth (Norway, EDG) and Egidijus Vareikis (Lithuania, EPP/CD) said that a July meeting of the leaders of political parties had “once again” ended without agreement on constitutional amendments which would enable all of Bosnia’s citizens to stand for election to the Presidency.
They declared their intention to visit the country again in the autumn to gather information for a full monitoring report on the fulfilment of obligations and commitments by Bosnia and Herzegovina, for debate by the Assembly during 2013.
