Strasbourg, 15.10.2012 – Lise Christoffersen (Norway, SOC) and Piotr Wach (Poland, EPP/CD), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by the Republic of Moldova, started today a fact-finding visit to Chisinau until 19 October.
They will be especially interested in the current political situation, the reform of justice, the measures taken to combat corruption and organised crime, and the implementation of Assembly Resolutions 1572 (2007), 1666 (2009) and 1692 (2009).
During this visit, the co-rapporteurs are due to meet the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as well as the Ministers of the Interior and Justice. Talks are also scheduled with representatives of the political parties represented in Parliament and representatives of the judicial authorities, NGOs and the media. In Transnistria, the co-rapporteurs will be speaking to the representatives of the de facto authorities and various NGOs.
The co-rapporteurs will hold a press conference in the Moldovan Parliament on Friday 19 October at 11.30 am.
