In a letter addressed to the President of the Italian Senate, the PACE President today expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the coach accident that took place near Avellino, in the region Naples, in which 38 people lost their lives:
"Let me convey you on behalf of all members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and on my own behalf, my deepest sympathy following the dramatic bus accident that occurred last night near Avellino, in the Naples area.
We are with you in these particularly painful moments after such a terrible disaster that has struck your country.
I would be grateful if you could send our message of compassion, solidarity and comfort to the bereaved and injured. I wish to extend our heartfelt encouragement to the rescue teams, who are doing exceptional work to help the victims in extremely difficult conditions."
