PACE post-monitoring rapporteur visits Turkey

Josette Durrieu (France, SOC), rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for “post-monitoring dialogue” with Turkey, is to visit the country from 26-29 May to assess Turkey’s progress in implementing the outstanding matters listed in the Assembly’s last post-monitoring resolution.

In Istanbul on 26 May, Mrs Durrieu is due to meet the Deputy Mayor as well as victims of the Gezi Park demonstrations, representatives of YouTube in Turkey, journalists from the country’s leading newspapers and representatives of civil society.

In Ankara on 27 May, she is due to meet the Foreign Minister and Minister for EU integration, the Speaker of Parliament, the Turkish delegation to PACE, and representatives of different political parties in Turkey, as well as the Ombudsman.

The following day, she is due to meet the Justice, Education, Interior, Transport and Family Ministers, and the heads of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, as well as representatives of Turkey’s judges and prosecutors.

In Eskişehir on 29 May, the rapporteur meets the Mayor and Deputy Governor, and visits a local school.
